Overview

Shortly after he was born, Lucas Hougom was diagnosed with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV), a relatively rare but life-threatening virus in newborns that attacked his liver.

Luckily, a friend of the Hougom family was a match to be a living liver donor and Dr. Tony D’Alessandro, a UW Health surgeon, performed this rare liver transplant.
