UW Health celebrates 2,000th pancreas transplant

After years of living with Type 1 diabetes and several life-threatening episodes of severe hypoglycemia, Rachael Lund received a pancreas transplant at UW Health in December 2025, becoming the program’s 2,000th transplant recipient and gaining freedom from the disease that had controlled her life. Supported by close friends, expert care teams, and the gift of organ donation, Lund has returned to work and activities she loves while encouraging others with severe diabetes to explore all available treatment options.
