Overview
Patrick Leigh was diagnosed with acute heart failure in his late 30s after struggling to keep up on the basketball court and learning he would eventually need a heart transplant. For eight years, the UW Health Transplant Center helped manage his condition until his symptoms worsened and he was placed on the transplant list in 2022. In early 2023, he received a new heart just in time and after 26 days in the hospital, he began a remarkably fast recovery. Within months, Patrick was back to teaching, playing basketball and enjoying time with his family, grateful for the care that gave him a second chance.
